Austerity as class war

Professor Mark Blyth has an excellent video explaining how Osborne’s (and everyone else’s) ‘logic’ of the need for austerity conceals the truth that everyone knows but non-economists can’t properly articulate: the tory boot is being stamped in the face of the poor, forever.

Towards the end he raises the spectre of class (i.e. civil) war. We’re overdue a revolution in Europe and it might not be such a remote prospect as all that.

  1. This is brilliant, not least in the way he systematically tears up the homely metaphor of “cleaning up after the party”, a party to which not all were invited. It hasn’t attracted many comments on youtube so far. Has this been widely circulated?
